Thea Mamukelashvili

Georgian Artist, Embroiderer, Felt Maker

  • Date ofbirth:    March 4, 1979. Telavi.
  • Education:       Telavi Ketevan Iashvili Art School (1995) and Telavi State University, (2001).
  • She is Georgian, lives in Telavi, is married and have a sons: Temuri Makhoshvili (13 years old) ,  Nicolas Makhoshvili (4 years old) and Giga Makhoshvili (3 Months old)
  • Thea is an artist, self-trained embroiderer. She has been embroidering since she was 5.  Her area of activity is a traditional Georgian and modern embroidery art, works on heraldic topics (State, Kings and Noble coat-of-arms of several countries) and creates impressive personal compositions. Her all works are made by her fantasy and is used only silk, golden and silver threads. Thea's works are very popular in Georgia and in other Countries. Time by the time Thea has an exhibitions of her works:
  • November 2000, her works were exhibited at Keteven Iashvili Telavi State Art Gallery;
  • December 1-29, 2000, she had her first personal exhibition at USAID Head Office (Sheraton Metechi Palace)
  • December 2000, Internet web-site was created, were most of her works can be viewed;
  • July 2001, she has become the member of the Georgian National Culture Science-Methodological Center;
  • September 2001, her works were exhibited at the Telavi State Art Gallery;
  • October 10, 2001, she had her second personal exhibition at Exhibition Hall of I. Chavchavadze National Library of the Parliament of Georgia, where alongside with other works 30 Georgian noble coat-of-arms were exhibited;
  • November 22, 2001, with the support of the Georgian State University History Department her third personal exhibition was held at the University Exhibition Hall;
  • November 29 – December 21, 2001, her fourth personal exhibition was held at the USAID Head Office. (Sheraton Metechi Palace)
  • March 22-April 1, 2002, Fifth personal embroidery exhibition of Thea Mamukelashvili was held at the Exhibition Hall of the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts;
  • September 23 – October 6 Thea’s 15 embroidery works have been exposed in France, Auxerre  (Museum of Saint-Germain);
  • October 10-17, 2003, sixth personal embroidery exhibition of Thea Mamukelashvili was held at the Exhibition Hall of the Lado Gudiashvili Batumi Exhibition Hall;   
  • She is a member of Painters Federation of Georgia and Telavi Regional Painters Union;
  • Thea is a founder of  NGO "Art Project" - Embroiderers' Union of Georgia   
  • 2006 - 2008 teacher of embroidery and folk arts at International Organisation in Georgia "World Vision"
